My friend Jason moved here from Rochester yesterday. The room he moved into and his address turns out is right next door to my old apartment when I first moved here.

We went out for a bit last night. I left a bit early and left him out and about to enjoy his new city and the new people in it. Hope he found his way home ok.

My Civil Doodie

So a few quick things for my blog. Neglect! I know I know.....

First lets talk jury duty. Yes, I got called and yes I had to serve on a trial. Although work only paid for 75% of it, Im still glad I served.

To give you a quick overview of the trail (because I can now talk about it), You have a 78 year old man who has worked his whole life as an iron worker and pipe fitter. He started working at 15, smoked, and ended up with asbestosis (I know, not the most exciting trial).

The company he was suing was a contracting company for a site he worked at in Southern California. He didnt work for them however it was established they were a contracting company that would rip out the other sides of the pipes he was fitting and were around most of the time he was in Southern California. This was mostly during the 60s when there was no Osha and wasnt any federal regulations for asbestos.

I for one said they werent neglegent for his asbestosis but the rest of the jury (except for one woman) said they were. Their reasoning was that the defendent didnt present any evidence or witnesses. They didnt try and say they werent there. They just let the plaintiff make his case. For me lack of evidence doesnt mean they are guilty but for the rest of the jury, the company was there and they contributed 25% of his asbestosis to the defendent. They awarded him 2.5 million which the company would be liable for 25%. I hate lawsuits like this.

Of course the jury was cool and made up of lots of younger people. Several gay and lots of men. I had one who seemed pretty persistant about exchanging phone numbers. I avoided him like the plaque.

This weekend is the SF Leather Daddys boy contest. I promised spunky who is the current title holder I would run for the title. Im a bit nervous since I dont usually like letting the walls down and letting people truly see inside and theres a huge part of me thats afraid. Like all fears, the best way to conquer them is to face them and live it out. I plan on being one of those people who just has fun with it, win or lose. I know several who are entering who are probably much more deserving since they do so much more for the community.

On a final note its Tuesday, August 29th and my friend Jason from Rochester is moving here today. Im really excited to have another Rochester person moving to San Francisco. We will head out for drinks tonight and it will be great to catch up.

More to come

Happy Birthday To Me

Happy Birthday To Me
Originally uploaded by desp1969.
So yesterday was my birthday and also the first day of serving my civil duty as a juror. Ive been called for jury duty before but never had to serve. Till now.....

So I was out of work and had a half day of jury duty today. I went in around 12:15 and they had this wonderful cake ready for me. Usually they've been getting their cakes from Whole Foods. Can I just say YUCK! Leslie however, my captain, and the wonderful person she is, went to Costco where the cakes are much bigger and much more brighter as you can see in the picture. Its so much more me.

As for life, things have been settling down a bit since the past few months have been busy. Dore Alley Fair was a few weeks ago and I actually, for the first time, left there without taking a single photo.

2 Fridays ago, I also managed to finally go to Marlenas. After hearing about the place for a while and thinking "why havent I been there yet", I asked my friend Kenji (who I expected to say no) to go with me. He said yes in a heartbeat. Now not only do I adore this person and have wanted to spend more time with him for a while, it was really nice to hear him say yes. Needless to say, Spunky came, Daddy Richard was there, as well as boy William and Jen from work. Ian showed up later and it was a lot of fun. We are going back this Friday.

With that it never seems to amaze me that after being here 2 years and all the bars I *have* been to, there are still many that I havent. Every time I turn around it seems Im learning about a new one that has been around forever.

So September is slowly approaching and somehow I think its going to be a very busy month for me. Friends coming into town through out the month and then there is Folsom. My friend Jarrod is coming in from Rochester and Im anxious to see him. My friend Lonnie from Chicago will also be here and I absolutely love Lonnie. Labor Day weekend Ill be running for SF Leather Daddys boy and dont think Ill win but if I do, it will then require some other events for the next year. At the end of the month, Adam gets here from NYC and Im really excited to see him. For some of you may remember, I blogged about him before.

Well thats about it. Ill write more when I get a chance.
